Photo Essay: Jalapeno Infused Tahoe Blue Vodka

TAHOE BLUE JALAPENO VODKA

Why, you ask would you do such a thing to such an amazing vodka? Don’t knock it until you try, please. Once you’ve made a batch of Tahoe Blue Jalapeno Vodka, there are so many fun ways to use it. (Of course, you should always keep a regular bottle on hand as well). Duh.

Many online recipes suggest much longer fermentation than my recipe calls for. All I have found that does it add a stale “green pepper” aftertaste. No thanks.

One 750 ML bottle Tahoe Blue Vodka

2 Medium sized green jalapeno peppers

1 small red Fresno chili pepper

  • Empty the vodka into an air tight container. I suggest using a large Mason Jar. Reserve Tahoe Blue bottle

  • Slice the peppers into rounds about ½ inch thick

  • Add peppers to jar, seal and mildly shake

  • Place in refrigerator for 12 hours.

  • Turn jar upside down (this redistributes the peppers) and refrigerate for an additional 12 hours

  • Using a funnel and small strainer placed over the mouth of the funnel, pour jalapeno vodka back into Tahoe Blue bottle. Discard all peppers and seeds in strainer.

  • IMPORTANT: Label your jalapeno vodka bottle. Maybe tie a pepper around it. Just don’t get them confused.

  • I prefer and suggest keeping your Tahoe Blue Jalapeno Vodka in the freezer. It will be good for as long as it lasts, which won’t be long once you start having fun with it.

TAHOE BLUE JALAPENO VODKA DIRTY MARTINI

For what it’s worth, this is my favorite way to use Tahoe Blue Jalapeno Vodka…and I don’t serve it as a traditional martini so adjust as necessary to your tastes

3 Ounces Tahoe Blue Jalapeno Vodka (see master recipe)

1/2 ounce green olive juice

Olive for garnish (optional…I don’t usually do this, but if I do, I prefer anchovy stuffed olives. If you haven’t tried them, please do. I HATE anchovies, but these olives are amazing

  • In a Tumbler glass, fill with ice (I prefer oversized baseball cubes if possible)

  • Pour olive juice over ice

  • Add Tahoe Blue Jalapeno Vodka and stir gently.

Rob's Tahoe Blue Vodka Recipes For St. Patrick's Day!

Saint Patrick’s Day is rarely thought of as a ”vodka holiday.” This is a shame, since Tahoe Blue vodka goes with any holiday…or day, for that matter. So, here a few St. Patty’s-Day-themed cocktails I came up with. Yes, two of them are green and one of them is gold. If you don’t care about the festive coloring pat of the holiday, then just drink Tahoe Blue straight, dummy.

TAHOE BLUE VODKA & COKE

46 Years on the planet and I never tried Vodka/Coke. I’ve heard of it, I just never tried it until last weekend. I had my fiancé try it and she said “what? It’s just coke!” I said “exactly, how dangerous is that?”

With Tahoe Blue’s super-smooth taste it accents the flavor of Coca-Cola in a way that makes you think that’s all you’re drinking…Coke. After a few of these you’ll know better

Makes One Drink:

3 ounces Tahoe Blue Vodka

6-8 ounces Coca Cola

  • Mix both in a glass over ice; stir and enjoy!

TAHOE BLUE SUPER BOWL PUNCH

This is a refreshing, citrus accented punch that is not too sweet and packs a nice punch…get it?

Makes a batch for a party as follows:

1 750ML bottle Tahoe Blue Vodka

2 bottles of Bud Light Lime (Corona also works)

12 ounces limeade, thawed

2 liters (9 cups) sparkling water (Perrier, etc)

3 medium limes, sliced into rounds

  • Mix all ingredients into a large pitcher or serving bowl.

  • Pour into glasses over ice

TAHOE BLUE SPARKLING GRAPE PUNCH

This is adapted from a Bobby Flay cocktail recipe and is a refreshing, vibrant, fun party punch:

1 cup Tahoe Blue Vodka

2 pounds red seedless grapes

1 cup red seedless grapes, sliced

½ cup honey

½ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (not the crap from a plastic lemon in the grocery store)

1 750ML bottle of sparkling rose wine

  • In a food processor or blender, blend together the 2 pounds of grapes, honey, and lemon juice until smooth.

  • Pour into pitcher or serving bowl. Add Tahoe Blue Vodka and sliced grapes and refrigerate for at least an hour

  • Add the Rose when the party starts; mix and serve!

TAHOE BLUE GRAND FIZZ

Another light, refreshing, fun Tahoe Blue inspired cocktail with a little citrus to accent the flavor

MAKES ONE DRINK, SERVE IN A LARGE WINE GLASS IDEALLY:

3 ounces Tahoe Blue Vodka

1 ½ ounces St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur

Half of a medium lime, freshly squeezed (juice only, discard rind)

6 ounces sparkling water

  • Fill wine glass with ice

  • Pour all ingredients into glass and stir, serve

TAHOE BLUE VODKA POT O' GOLD

Get it? Pot o’ gold, because it has a gold tint and leprechauns live in Pots of gold; or something like that. The St. Germain (which is an elderflower liquer) and Ginger Beer give it it’s slight tint of color.

2 Ounces Tahoe Blue Vodka

½ St. Germain

1 ounce Ginger Beer (recommend Cock & Bull)

Fresh mint for garnish (optional)

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with crushed ice. Pour all your liquid ingredients in and shake it up well and strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass and garnish with fresh mint leaf.

TAHOE BLUE LEPRECHAUN

It’s bright green and fruity, mostly (I think), like peach. I suggest using the best quality orange and pineapple juice you can (it makes a difference even at these small quantities, believe me). Serve it in a tall glass or a fun oversized glass for similar fruit drinks like a Mai-tai or Pina Colada.

1.5 Ounces Tahoe Blue Vodka

1 ounce Blue Curacao

1 ounce Peach Schnapps

½ ounce orange juice

½ ounce pineapple juice

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Pour all your ingredients in and shake it up well and strain the mixture into the glass of choice, serve over ice.

TAHOE BLUE GREEN MARTINI

Very basic…the Midori makes it green, the Tahoe Blue makes it awesome and the Cointreau is in honor of Tahoe Blue Founder and CEO, Matt (a fellow maggot) who swears that an orange slice is the best accompaniment to his vodka.

3 Ounces Tahoe Blue Vodka

½ ounce Midori

½ ounce Cointreu

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with crushed ice. Pour all your ingredients in and shake it up well and strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a slice of orange (just for Matt).

TAHOE BLUE CINNAMON VODKA

Why, you ask would you do such a thing to such an amazing vodka? Don’t knock it until you try, please. This recipe comes straight from Loyal Maggot Matt, the Founder and CEO of Tahoe Blue Vodka. He recommends using it in anything from coffee to hot chocolate or any hot holiday drink or beverage, especially any of them with coffee friendly liqueurs.

One 750 ML bottle Tahoe Blue Vodka

2 Whole Cinnamon Sticks

  • Empty the vodka into an air tight container. I suggest using a large Mason Jar. Reserve Tahoe Blue bottle

  • Add cinnamon sticks to jar, seal and mildly shake

  • Store in cool, dark place for 48 hours.

  • Pour vodka back into Tahoe Blue bottle. Discard cinnamon sticks and do not be alarmed by the color of the Vodka now being similar to that of the Sacramento Delta.

TAHOE BLUE "GRINCH"

It’s green, get it? And a little too sweet for my tastes, but gals love it, and yes that’s meant to be condescending. Didn’t every high school girl love Medori?

Ice cubes

Martini shaker

TAHOE BLUE CANDY CANE MARTINI

Let the candy cane garnish sit in the drink for a few minutes and the red dye of the candy cane will settle into the bottom of the drink and give it a festive look. Be warned; you better like peppermint for this one! The sparkling water (like Perrier) is essential to the overall feel of this drink.

MAKES ONE DRINK

¾ ounces Tahoe Blue vodka

¾ ounce Rumplleminz schnapps

1 ounce sparkling water

Ice cubes

Martini shaker

Serve in martini glass with small candy cane on the rim
